One In Ten of You Are Slacking Off!

According to some group of jerks in Geneva, there are 90 guns for every 100 Americans.

So 10% of you had best get your asses to a gunshop and buy something. (Why do you hate freedom?)

Tam over at View From the Porch
thinks the figures are low and I suspect there is something to her argument.

I think the number is low, also. Most of my firearms were obtained from private parties, and are not on record anywhere.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I think most "gun people" tend to own more than one weapon. (i.e. handguns and long rifle/shotguns) Mr & Mrs Suburban might have been drawn by fear to buy a piece, thinking that would make their home safe, but there are wide areas with no ownership at all.

Who buys guns? People who grew up or who live in rural areas (fewer and fewer of them); ex-service people (fewer and fewer of them.)

This 1997 NIJ study estimates gun ownership to be lower, with bulk concentrations in hands of a limited percentage of owners.

This study thinks about 1/3 of Americans own the guns.

Even allowing for all the unregistered and illegal guns (there is a difference) I'd be surprised if 65% of households were armed.

Well, then 2/3rds of Americans are slacking off, trusting a third of us to fulfil the security role envisioned by the Founding Fathers!
