The Most Hated Man in American History, According to the Conservatives....

... was able to persuade the North Koreans to release an American who was stupid enough to go into North Korea without official permission to do so.

What little I know of this situation is pretty embarrassing, except for Jimmy doing that man a great service.

He walked over the border thinking he was going to convert souls, no doubt. He was going to evangelize. His movement would sweep the country. He'd be hailed as a conquering hero for god.

They quite correctly threw his ass in prison... where he no doubt had a lot of people he could communicate with and convert. Souls that presumably needed saving. But he had to get out as soon as he could. Coward.

So a crazy American walks across the DMZ and lands in the gulag of a country that is NK

Look I don't think President Carter should have rescued that fellow, but President Carter is, well a saint...
(in a secular humanist sort of way to me) I visited the Carter Library in Atlanta once....felt I was in the presence of great good...

Jimmy Carter is the only American I can think of with sufficient moral authority to get the guy out. If anyone else had tried, dollars to donuts they would've executed Mr Proselytizer just for pique.
