It's Not Just Blue Collar Jobs Going Overseas

The New London Day is reporting this morning that Pfizer is moving its antibacterial research unit from Groton, Connecticut to Shanghai, China.

So much for the crap that when American companies make money, they hire more people, which result in good jobs for Americans.

I worked 3 years for a ship repait/building yard owned by Canada Steamship Lines which was/is owned by The Right Dishourable Paul Martin, former Prime Minister of Canada. We had so many layoffs, some were very short term like half a day because of lack of work, only to find he was halving four new container ships built in China....so I know first hand the pain and humiliation of big busines work ethics.....Allan

sorry for the bad spelling in the above, one word should read 'repair', not 'repait' and the should be 'having', not 'halving'. What can I say....brain fart?

It happens.

Was this unit working in the fancy new building built on the land taken by eminent domain a few years back?

No. The 750,000 s.f. building that they are vacating in New London is upriver, pretty much next door, to Ft. Trumbull. Pfizer abandoned any plans to expand into Ft. Trumbull (and denied they ever had any plans to do so) once that eminent domain case blew up.

The city moved everyone out. They demolished the houses. And there it sits, a big empty lot. Nobody wants to be tagged with building there.
