There Has to be Some Really Evil Shit in Romney's Tax Returns

Because, if there wasn't, why would he not just release them and make this whole issue go away?

But he refuses to do so. Because he's either a stubborn jackass, he's painted his stupid self into a corner or else there is something that is seriously damaging in those returns. Something that is so snark-worthy that if it came out, his candidacy would be pretty much toast.

I'm going for "evil" as a choice. For he is deservedly getting beaten to shit over this issue, but he stubbornly refuses to change course. His dad released a dozen years' worth of returns, because as he explained at the time, one or two years might be a fluke.

A smart candidate would, by this time, just release the returns and then take the position of: "Hey, whaddya want. I'm filthy rich and I did what filthy rich people do." Whatever spoiled-rich-fuck tax stuff is in there would probably blow over in a few weeks. So what if he said he wouldn't release the returns; it's not as though Mittens hasn't already flip-flopped on every other fucking hot-button issue (such as gay rights, gun control and abortion).

Unless, of course, what he did was so evil that there is no explaining it away.

Which is looking more and more as though that is the case.

UPDATE: Probably not Medicare fraud, which Romney has been tied to in the past. But hey, stealing from the government? IOKIYAR!

I heard two interesting thoughts. One was that he really, REALLY doesn't want his church to find out how much he really made. (They don't truck with that loophole shit when it comes to tithes.)

The other thought is, he knew years ago he was going to run again... and he was going to drop millions to do it. Why the hell didn't he just do 2 or 3 'clean' years of tax payment, so that wouldn't crop up as an issue, at all?

Is paying a proper amount of taxes so painful to him that he'd rather spend millions in damage control, instead?

I suspect that Bishop Romney underpaid his tithes and that Harry Reid knows that.

Also, Mittens has been running for the presidency since 2005. So one would think that he'd have clean returns at least back that far. But alas, he doesn't seem to.

Romney has complied with the law by filing a financial disclosure statement. His assets are in a blind trust, he does not control them or know what they are. You are so obsessed about how many years of tax returns that Romney provides (that are NOT required by law) but not obsessed about the unemployment numbers going up in 44 out of the 50 states in July.

Why?

Whatever is in them should be legal, unless he is still negotiating a settlement with the IRS.

Oh, we can talk about that. We can talk about how the Republicans in Congress have been actively sabotaging the economy in the hopes of bringing about Obama's defeat. We can talk about how the GOP Minority Leader in the Senate said in 2010 that his caucus's number one priority was to make Obama a one-term president. Not do anything to fix the economy. Not reforming the military procurement system. Not doing anything about our ailing infrastructure. Not repairing the "testing uber alles" focus of No Child Left Behind. Not addressing the failed War on Drugs. Not even fixing the budget.

No, none of that shit whatsoever mattered to Republicans. The only thing that has mattered to them for the last 3.5 years has been defeating Obama. Every move to create jobs, to jump-start the economy has been sabotaged by Republicans.

So yes, if you want to put that on the table, let's. But if you'd rather talk about Mittens the Liar, let's.

Then why doesn't he just release them and end the debate? After all, as the police-state Republicans like to say: "If he has nothing to hide, he has nothing to fear."

By my calculations, President Obama had a Democratic Congress MORE than he did not, so don't blame it on the Republicans. Counting the number of months the Democrats and Republicans had control of either chamber of Congress while BHO has been President reveals the following:

67 Democrat (43 Senate + 24 House of Representatives)
19 Republican (Current term in House of Representatives)

Lots of work and effort to get Obamacare passed, not so much to get the economy fixed. Oh, and recent news is that when the mandates of Obamacare go into effect, many smaller employers will lay off people rather than pay the employer penalties. Articles written by small business owners reveal that they will be looking more aggressively to off-shore their labor costs, since Obamacare makes it even more expensive to hire US employees. When Obamacare was being debated, 82% of the American people were satisfied with their health insurance. Way to go, BHO! Way to go, BHO!

Why don't you just admit it, all of these other piddly side issues like Romney's tax returns (of which he has provided MORE than required by law) are just an effort to try to steer people away from the lousy job that BHO has done with the economy. To quote President Obama, "Look, I’m at the start of my administration. One nice thing about the situation I find myself in is that I will be held accountable. You know, I’ve got four years. A year from now I think people are going to see that we’re starting to make some progress. But there’s still going to be some pain out there. If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”

Yeah, Romney tax returns, filed in accordance with the law, are soooo much more important.

Of course, to accept your calculation requires that one operate in total ignorance of the modern reality of the Senate, to wit: If you don't have 60 votes, for your bill, it won't pass, for the GOP can and does filibuster every fucking bill that the Democrats put forth. Denying that reality, much?

Why don't you just admit the fact that the Republicans are all about bullshit, lies and misdirection? None of those clowns cared a whit about the deficit until McCain lost. Paul Ryan was for the Bush tax cuts (massive budget buster), for going into two unfunded wars (ditto), for Medicare Part D (ditto). Romney enacted universal health insurance when he was governor.

But go ahead, tell me how the Republicans are so much better.

John Milton said...

Yes, you're are correct, to wit: The Republicans were able to successfully filibuster the Lilly Ledbetter Act, the $700B+ stimulus bill, Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, and a repeal of DADT.

I have a secret suspicion that it's another "head fake". Sure, he's loop-holed into paying a lower percentage in income taxes than many of us, and that looks and smells "baddish".
Ahhh, but by creating a red herring of his unreleased tax returns, I suspect that's to draw attention away from his lucrative organ-legging operations, drug-running, human trafficking and such-like. Call me old fashioned, but I don't think honest people make the kind of money he does.
I mean, Bain Capital was founded with start-up money from folks who ran death squads in Central America, fer crying out loud. That's not enough to disqualify him as a candidate for POTUS? IOKIYAR, you bet!
Sing along time: "How LOW can you go? How LOW can you go?"

Republicans in power: Fuck deficits... let the next guy pay for them. Let's give money to all my rich friends.

Republicans out of power: Blame all results of Republican policy on the new guy. Do everything in our power to grind the wheels of government to a halt.

At all times: Say, "the government is wasteful and useless" while making the government wasteful and useless.

These guys are your enemies, if you're an American.

The fact that the Democrats were able to peel off a couple of moderate Republicans (an endangered subspecies) before the batshit-crazy ideologues got fully funded from the Koch brothers does not negate my point. It not oly proves it, it proves the point that when the Republicans are willing to negotiate, things can get done.

But there is no negotiating with terrorists, and make no mistake: Legislatively, that's what Republicans are.
