You Don't Need a Weatherman to Know Which Way the Wind is Blowing; Ferguson Edition

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Monday ahead of an expected grand jury decision in the case of Michael Brown.
While, meanwhile, the cops in St. Louis County continue to obfuscate and lie:
[Chief Jon Belmar of St Louis County] the police chief leading the response to protests over the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, has been accused of dishonesty by demonstrators after denying that officers shot at them with rubber bullets and claiming that only criminals were teargassed.
Reporters were teargassed. Clergy were teargassed. People standing in their yards were teargassed. All of that is a matter of record.

And the cops were shooting at people, including those who where only exercising their First Amendment rights, with rubber munitions. That Chief Belmar is hanging his hat on the distinction between "rubber balls" and "rubber bullets" is pettifoggery to an unseemly degree.

So with the State of Emergency the cops will be in riot gear with all their riot toys handy. That guarantees that regardless of the decision, the cops will riot. If Wilson walks, the people will be surly and have to be beaten down. If Wilson is indicted the cops will go crazy and have to beat down those damned people responsible for abusing one of their own. The only real question is how much will we see on TV.

I had such 'hope' for the 21rst Century. So far it seems like a replay of maybe the 19th century. Robber Barons, Slavery, Wars for the Rich.
My remaining hope is that somehow this will bring a little growth to Missouri. Something has to bring the rest of the country along.
We are all capable of so much Greater stuff than this.
My heart goes out to the people of that state that don't have their head in their ass.

I should publicly order... no DEMAND the FAA enact a temporary flight restriction over Ferguson.

It would be fun to see a government agency obey my direct order.

And, also? Assuming violence will explode all over the place tickles my racism detector. I mean, it's not wrong. SOME people will start violence. Perhaps the police, or off-duty police... But I see the implicit assumption that Ferguson's residents are (blah) prone to violence. And (blah) basically waiting for an opportunity (blah) to loot. Also, they're black.
