Trump Would Have Saved Money by Stiffing the Contractors, the Suppliers and the Workers

President Donald Trump’s “wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border would be a series of fences and walls that would cost as much as $21.6 billion, and take more than three years to construct, based on a U.S. Department of Homeland Security internal report seen by Reuters on Thursday.

The report’s estimated price-tag is much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and estimates as high as $15 billion from Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
.
The Federal government doesn't work like one of Trump's companies, it doesn't get away with failing to pay or underpaying everyone on a project.

The one thing that may give President* Trump a stiffy is that he's in a better position to take other people's land away from them.

As a former construction contractor who did perform on federal contracts, I can undoubtedly state that it was very easy to come under the federal engineer's estimate. That being the case, the question then becomes why would I?

For starters, it is the lowest bid which wins the contract. But that is quickly eaten up with extra work orders, etc. It is a game which often features collusion between contractor and federal agencies. Hence the rumored $800 hammer.

For ethical reasons I did not play the game as well as I could, therefore I did not make as much money as I could. But I did make a goodly margin and I did sleep at night.

You are being obtuse to suggest this as prima facie evidence of an uninformed/inattentive President.

I read an article that said "Panels for the Wall will be built in China and imported", if true, you would think that quite a kick in the butt to this country.
I can't put it past Cheetolini to do that either.
